I'm building a belt grinder for general metal work and tool sharpening. I have the belt pulleys made. 2" x 6" dia for the drive pulley, and 2" x 4" for the idler/adjustment pulley. The idler pulley has Fafnir German bearings with Teflon spacers. I'm looking for a specific motor to power it, and that is what has brought the project to a halt.

Mike, I haven't built a grinder in a lot of years now. I bought a burr king over a decade ago and that's that. I do have other belt grinders but seldom ever use anything else. My Blade Master grinder is now a surface grinder. If I made one today, I doubt it would look as good as yours.

The belt grinder in the video doesn't have enough clearance at the base which causes the belt to rub if it is not adjusted correctly. So make sure you have enough clearance at the base. Re: 2x72 belt grinder project. There is a chart somewhere on beumont's website that gives you a sfm based on drive wheel and motor rpm. When I built mine I made every wheel but the drive wheel for that same reason. I think I paid $100 while raw material was like $80. YouTube.
