Never grind carbide with CBN. It will glaze the wheel and then you have to dress it and waste a lot of expensive grit. I use my milling machine as a surface grinder from time to time and I use aluminum oxide jockey wheels for mild steel. Those are cup wheels and they hold up well since they wear across the entire face.
