Bought for $10 at Bunnings after reading the positive reviews. Have tried a number of different options to clean and whiten the dirty grout in my bathroom but nothing worked. I sprayed long life grout cleaner on the grout.. left it for 10 mins or so. Scrubbed with a toothbrush and once the grout dried it was significantly whiter and cleaner.

I initially used Davco tile and grout cleaner but that only lifted off a bit, not really good for thick grout haze. I then used straight vinegar because I was concerned about my tiles. The vinegar did nothing. So I used the big guns, Hydrochloric acid. It's stocked at bunnings in the plumbers isles.

So I tried a 1L bottle of Davco tile and grout cleaner from bunnings which is a diluted acid (not sure which though) I did a test spot and it didn't discolour so did the entire patio with a scrubbing brush and then gurney. It's looking much much better but once dried there are a few spots which didn't seem to clear up entirely.

I would recommend the Davco 1.5kg White Sanitized Colourgrout to re-grout your tiled area. If you are just patching certain areas you can use the Dunlop 800g Ready-To-Go Coloured Grout - White. I suggest using the QEP Carbide Grout Saw to remove the old grout. Clean the tile gap using the Sabco Soft Grip Grout Brush before applying new grout.
Sealed the grout in bathrooms, toilets and kitchen. Glad I did and would do again. Agree with your thoughts – why clean when you can seal. That said, I've still cleaned grout in kitchen with a grout brush and it did make a difference but to my way of thinking the sealer keeps stains out that would otherwise soak into the porous grout.
