I want to buy a new rear bumper with a 2 inch receiver hitch. I have read a few articles on them and they will not rate them for towing. What gives they are attached to the frame and are stronger than the factory bumper. If I go to a hitch that you mount to the frame under the bumper it will put it close to the ground.

I have the expedition one rear bumper. And I have both the bumper mount spare tire and the 37" spare underneath. With the expedition one bumper, the oem hitch is not changed. However, with the 37" tire mounted underneath, the limit on the departure angle is mostly due to the tire and not the hitch.

Not good. I have aftermarket steel front and rear bumpers and really like the looks over factory. One thing to note on at least some aftermarket steel rear bumpers is the integral trailer hitch. On my LOD rear bumper it also incorporates the same bolts used for a factory trailer hitch, adding strength and stability.
